Abstract

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the most pressing social and medical problems of our time. Unfortunately, despite the impressive successes achieved in the prevention and treatment of CHD over the past decade, it still occupies a leading position in the structure of morbidity and mortality in developed industrial countries. According to the American Heart Association, more than 5 million Americans and 10 million Europeans suffer from heart failure (HF), according to statistics from the European Association of Cardiologists. According to epidemiological studies conducted in our country, it was revealed that in 2002 there were 8.1 million people with signs of CHF in the Russian Federation, of which 3.4 million had pronounced III-IV functional class (FC) of the disease. According to WHO data, about 500 people out of 100,000 population die from coronary heart disease in Russia every year, which is 2-4 times higher than the similar indicator in socially developed countries. The main types of treatment for patients with coronary heart disease and severe left ventricular dysfunction are drug and/or surgical treatment. Data from numerous studies have shown that the 5-year survival rate of patients with coronary heart disease with a mean left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of 25% in the drug group does not exceed 28%. With surgical treatment of this category of patients, 5-year survival can reach 50%
