Abstract

Background:
A newborn is fragile, helpless, dependent and requires specialized care to prevent diseases that are not obvious from birth, but become manifest as the child grows.
Objective: To assess the Knowledge and attitude of mothers toward neonatal screening.
Patients and Method: Descriptive cross sectional study. The study included mothers visit primary health care center with child age from 1 to 12 months with no family history of hereditary disease and no history of serious illness bring him to PHCCs for preventive measures . total sample was 200 subjects.
Results: A total of 200 mothers enrolled in this study , eighty six percent of mothers age between 18 and 35 years and only 6 mothers out of 250 were below age 18 years . 143 (71.5%) out of 200 mothers get information about neonatal screening from health workers in hospitals or PHCCs , 21(10.5%) mothers from relatives and friends and only 2 (1%) mothers get information from TV and radio.
Conclusion: More than half of participant mothers don't have knowledge about neonatal screening, while more than half of them have a good attitude.
