For the treatment of certain medical conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in women, there is an array of diagnostic and therapeutic ways to achieve this purpose. Management options for infectious processes of the genital tract involve these strategies. An accurate diagnosis is critical and often involves physical examination, laboratory investigation and history taking. Bacterial vaginosis is usually treated with antibiotics like metronidazole or clindamycin whereas vulvovaginal candidiasis is treated with antifungals such as fluconazole. Specific modalities of treatment will still depend on what specific infection.
